SkanFest U: Music and the Visual Arts

The Skaneateles Festival's educational programs are open to all. Join Artistic Director Aaron Wunsch, professor at The Julliard School, for music history, listening, skill building, conversation, and special live performances.

This year's educational course explores the intersections between music and the visual arts. Learn how paintings inspired composers in their music, from the literally depictive (Debussy), to emotional responses (Rachmaninoff), to similarities in technique (Liszt). In many cases, the visual arts opened doors to new means of musical expression - and they continue to do so today, as in Lera Auerbach's new Festival-commissioned work for Hilary Hahn. Study and discuss art by Michelangelo, Raphael, Delacroix, Monet, Rauschenberg, and others, and hear exclusive live performances of music by Liszt, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff and Debussy.

This is a series of classes that takes place over four Tuesdays from 7/30 - 8/20, 3-4:00pm. The cost is $40 to attend all 4 classes (free for Season Pass holders).
