Season

Week 1: Many Happy Returns!

In 2014, the Skaneateles Festival turns 35 years young! You won't want to miss our stunning and festive week-long celebration. We'll bring you outstanding performers that were influential in the festival's early days in a flavorful mix of beloved masterpieces and hidden gems. The week ends with a bang as the Fireworks ensemble, an "explosive" chamber band that straddles "the chasm between the new and the old" takes the stage at Brook Farm in their Skaneateles debut.

Week 2: East Meets West

Come embrace a cultural divide, as the festival brings an exotic East-West fusion to Skaneateles. In a mesmerizing synthesis of traditional Asian musical elements with Western art music, this week's concerts will give you a taste of the cross-cultural exchanges that have been occurring since ancient times. Travel with us as we move west along the Silk Road, hearing everything from traditional Chinese instruments and harmonies, to Rimsky-Korsakov's orientalism, to Ravel's profound fascination with all things Eastern, and finally to contemporary Chinese-American composers who so effectively synthesize East and West. Saturday night's concert brings the fusion full circle, as traditional Chinese instruments join forces with a modern string quartet and percussion.

Week 3: Gypsy Nights

The nomadic gypsy people and their vibrant, soulful music have mesmerized artists for centuries. Their music enchanted composers as diverse as Telemann, Liszt, and Kodály. An evening of true gypsy music is always guaranteed to be a dramatic and spirited experience, heavy on dancing and audience involvement! You won't want to miss our take on these gypsy evenings, as we bring you passionate and temperamental performances of gypsy-inspired music that spans the centuries and the globe.

Week 4: Encore!

Back by popular demand, two of our most beloved groups return to the festival for what will be a spectacular closing week of concerts. The youthful and conductor-less East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO) has been praised by the New York Times for its "sheer exuberance." A dynamic collective of some of the most talented young American string players today, ECCO produces concerts notable for combining superb artistic quality with an effervescent vitality. And what better way to kick off Labor Day weekend than spending an evening with Time for Three? Called "the future of music" by conducting legend Sir Simon Rattle, tf3 defies classification. Performing music from Bach and Brahms to Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake, they regularly play Carnegie Hall, the Indy 500 and everywhere in between. They’ve just completed their first Asian tour, and their anti-bullying video "Stronger," featured on CNN and the Huffington Post, is inspiring students around the globe.
